RLPA Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
Policy 2024/2025
Students may have cell phones, smart watches, and electronic devices on campus only if they are turned OFF and out of sight during the school day (7:30am-2:37pm). Please do not text or call your child directly during school hours as this violates the student cell phone policy. All devices must be turned off and out of sight between the first and last bell of the day unless being used for learning purposes under the supervision of the teacher. In the case of an emergency, or in response to a perceived threat of danger, students would be allowed to use their cell phones following guidelines from RLPA staff.
Any phone determined to have been used inappropriately (text/picture/video) may be searched by school administration and/or police. A suspension may result from inappropriate use. RLPA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or confiscated electronic devices, nor will we investigate lost or stolen items. Please keep items of high value at home.
For consideration of student safety, violations may result in disciplinary action:
- 1st Offense- teacher/staff will confiscate the phone and return it back to the student at the end of the class period.
- 2nd Offense - the device will be turned over to the discipline office/VP. Parents/guardians will be contacted. The phone will be returned back to the student at the end of that school day. Detention will be assigned to the student.
- 3rd Offense forward- the device will be turned into the main office/principal. A parent must collect the phone from the office; Students will not be able to collect phones without a parent/ guardian. Detention will be assigned to the student. Additionally, parents/ guardians must provide staff with identification when checking into the office.
When a student needs to communicate with the parent during school hours, they may request the use of the phone in the classroom or office. When the parent needs to communicate a message to the student, the parent will leave the message with the office and the message will be relayed to the student.
